There are several types of skin cancer, but the most common are basal cell and squamous. Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that originates in melanocytes (cells that contain melanin, a pigment responsible for tanning) and is the most aggressive, because it can spread to other parts of the body through the lymphatic vessels or blood.
